Earth Retention SystemsRedevelopment of downtown areas or expansion of existing facilities often entails deep excavation adjacent to existing streets or other structures. Where it is impossible to backslope sides of the excavation a vertical cut requiring lateral support for stability is necessary. In such a case shoring is installed to provide stability. If the excavation will extend below the foundation depth of an adjacent structure, underpinning may be required to safely support that structure and prevent damage caused by undermining its foundation. Each shoring and underpinning project requires a site-specific design. The selection of the most suitable type of shoring and/or underpinning, as well as the correct design of components making up the system to withstand maximum lateral earth pressures which may develop, requires an accurate evaluation of the soil conditions at each site as well as considerable experience. AGRA Foundations Limited engineers are well trained in the concepts of earth pressure theories and have considerable field experience in the design and installation of many varied shoring and underpinning projects. |
